Insectula! is an independent comedy/horror that takes you right back to the golden days of the classic creature features of the 40's, 50's and 60's, when no-budget special effects, over-dramatic deadpan acting and tongue and cheek comedy blended perfectly to create some of the most enjoyable science-fiction horrors around.

Insectula! tells the story of a giant alien mosquito that is drawn to earth due to rising CO2 levels in search of blood. Del, a government agent, loses loved ones to the creature and is on a personal vendetta while scientist Dr. Kempler is captivated by it and attempts to help the creature "cleanse" the earth. The scientist's beautiful lab assistant Brittany is caught in the middle.

#The film is passionate creation of husband and wife team Michael Peterson (writer/director) and Danielle Cezanne (producer/casting) who went down the difficult road of self-distribution on a journey that took more than four years from start to finish, but it looks to have paid off wonderfully.

Take a look at the trailer.

There are a ton of modern-day creature features out there. Over time the way in which we make films changes continuously and you can see this new adaptation of the old classics in films such as Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda (2014), Piranhaconda (2011), Dinoshark (2010) and so on and so forth. There are countless of these wonderful no-brainer films, but like I said, these are the modern-day versions that, although entertain well, do not have quite so much impact that the feature films of days long gone by do.

What's obvious about Insectula! is that Michael Peterson is not only a fan of the almighty classics, but an obvious authority and cognoscente of the genre. This film has lovingly been made with great focus on maintaining authenticity. From the writing, direction and acting to the sound and the cinematography and the usage of colour, Insectula! takes you right back with welcome senses of nostalgia to films such as Them! (1954), The Deadly Mantis (1957), The Strange World of Planet X (1958), The Giant Spider Invasion (1975) and so many more.

Insectular! stars Pasquale Pilla, Arielle Cezanne, Sarah French, Harrison Matthews, Joel Thingvall and Christian Hanson.
