Robert Pattison Didn’t Have A Clue What Was Happening In Tenet.

In a recent profile article in Esquire focusing on Tenet and Ballers star John David Washington, Robert Pattison spoke about his time working on the latest Christopher Nolan mind-bender Tenet, and it sounds like he was confused as I am now when I watch the trailer, or think about the time I watched Inception.

It’s an incredibly complicated movie, like all of Chris’s movies. I mean, you have to watch them when they’re completely finished and edited three or four times to understand what the true meaning is.

Robert continues to talk about how he felt during the months of filming.

When you’re doing them, I mean, there were months at a time where I’m like, ‘Am I . . . I actually, honestly, have no idea if I’m even vaguely understanding what’s happening.’ And yeah, I would definitely say that to John David. On the last day, I asked him a question about what was happening in a scene, and it was just so profoundly the wrong take on the character. And it was like, ‘Have you been thinking this the entire time?

Mate, I’m the same with some of his work. I must admit, I’m one of the few that’s not really a Nolan fan. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate his unique style of writing and directing, but I just can’t get into his films like other’s can. I think the only two films that I really enjoyed were Momento and The Prestige, and they were pretty much just a one-time-watch for me. Inception just didn’t hold me interest at all. The whole ‘dream, within a dream, within a dream’ crap just bored me to tears, or maybe I just didn’t understand it. Visually, the film was stunning, but given the digital capabilities of the modern age and the money that is pumped into these films to make them happen, I wouldn’t expect anything less.

Maybe I’ll be surprised. I’m willing to give it a chance, rather than dismiss it before I’ve even seen it. That being said, I’m still expecting to be rather confused by it, in true Nolan style. Tenet is due for release next month on the 17th July, and barring any more problems caused by the Coronavirus Apocalypse, I don’t see it getting pushed back any later. Regardless of my personal opinions on Nolan films, Tenet is sure to be the highlight of this year for many.

You can also catch Pattison in the latter half of next year as the titular character in Matt Reeves’ upcoming superhero flick The Batman. The Batman also stars Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
