First Look And Details For Call The Midwife Christmas Special

Beginning in 2012, Call the Midwife has been a much-loved staple of British television ever since. Its blend of tackling social issues, family drama, heart-warming stories, period settings and a wonderful cast of characters has cemented it as one of the greatest British dramas in television history. Set in the poverty-stricken East End of London during the transformative 1950s and 1960s, this heartfelt series takes viewers on a remarkable, and sometimes emotional journey. Through the eyes of dedicated midwives and nurturing nuns, we witness the trials and triumphs of their extraordinary profession.

The show beautifully intertwines the lives of these compassionate women who bring new life into the world with the essential care they provide to their communities. Each episode unravels their challenges, their resilience, and their unwavering dedication. As we are drawn deeper into the narratives, we become invested in their personal stories, exploring themes of love, loss, and the evolving roles of these women, and the vital roles that they played in society.

12 seasons in, and Call the Midwife has never seen a slump in quality of cast and storytelling. It is easily one of the most consistent series that I have ever watched, and I always look forward to the latest season. Now, as we get news that filming has wrapped on season 13, we have the latest Christmas special to look forward to.

According to Virgin Radio UK the official synopsis reads as ‘Call the Midwife’s Christmas Special begins two weeks before Christmas with Apollo 8 poised to circle the moon. Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt) is convinced this could be her last Yuletide and decides she’ll not live to see man walk on the moon. The Nonnatus Family, including Trixie (Helen George)’s brother Geoffrey (Christopher Harper), decide something must be done to try and lighten her state of mind. ‘

To be honest, I hardly ever read the synopsis for upcoming episodes, because I know I’m guaranteed a great viewing every time.

Take a look at these Instagram posts below from the official account.

We can look forward to all the returning characters, and new ones, when Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 25th December.

HO! HO! HO!

Enjoy!
